The installation Between the Surfaces takes a stand on the explosive growth of spruce pests in the commercial forests of Pirkanmaa due to global warming. Monoculture and unsustainable management of commercial forests are causing extensive spruce forest destruction, which is being accelerated by warmer summers and milder winters.
The work considers what kind of life those other species of small bark beetles live in commercial forests, causing silently growing destruction. Despite their destructive power, they consider spruce trees their refuge, and I wonder if people do the same with their clothes. Performance by the Pirkanmaa multidisciplinary working group Luontosalaseura were Sat 10.5.2025.
