The offer for an installation at Alppila street gallery Mutteri came as a pleasant surprise. However, I didn’t want to start working on without collaborating with a colleague, and I wanted to use the already familiar kombucha leather. My friend Sara Vaali immediately joined in. Our collaboration works like clockwork and we decided that Who’s Calling? would be a continuation of our last year’s spatial art piece Tursuamissysteemi, where creatures hang and play in a beach atmosphere. They are secretly trying to squeeze into the colossus, which is far too small. It squeezes and oppresses.
This work was a dialogue between two artists about the relationship between nature, where different angles of approach lead towards each other. This is about a gentle process. Collecting, drying, sharing. From nature to the city. Softening the corners, looking at the ground. There is a lot of work, a lot of mess, going around in circles and walls that don’t cover.
